WHITE ELEPHANT STORE- PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!

white elephant hat christmas ...Date: Wednesday 14th of December
Time: 1:15pm- 2pm
Location: 3/4 Community

As a response to our Inquiry unit on Sustainability,
the 3/4 Community will be hosting a White Elephant Stall to promote the reuse of products and reducing the over consumption of goods.

All proceeds raised will be donated to the Lotus Fund Charity, which will be used to support educating underprivileged girls in Laos.

A White Elephant Stall is where people bring in their unwanted items such as books, toys or accessories to be sold in one place.

We are asking students from all grades at CCK to participate in donating unwanted items to sell at the lunchtime stall, which all will be able to attend.

You can begin dropping items off to the 3/4 Community each day from now until the day of this event.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

“one Person’s Junk is Another Person’s Treasure”.

Oh Emmanuel, God is with us now!

As part of our unit, Oh Emmanuel-God is with us now! the 3/4 Community have constructed an Advent calendar filled with goodwill actions which students have designed and will perform e.g. helping a peer with a task, giving someone a compliment, helping parents prepare a meal at home etc.

This initiative is designed to remind us to GIVE MORE rather than HAVE MORE during the time of Advent.

Goodwill actions are revealed during morning prayer each day.
Parents, grandparents and siblings are always welcomed within this sacred time in the 3/4 Community.

We hope that the season of Advent reminds you that God is really with us now and to remember the true meaning of this Holy celebration.

A HUGE Day Out

On Wednesday the 23rd of November the Year 3/4 Community went on a really fantastic and packed excursion. We had the chance to see Melbourne City from a different perspective while enjoying relaxing on the River Boat Cruise. The cruise was really interesting because we got to see Amai Park, the MCG, Rod Laver Arena. We were shocked at how musky and dirty the water was we thought it would be clear! Did you know that there are rubbish collectors all along the Yarra River that collect everything from the city?

Other facts we learnt about the Yarra River were:

  • There are 68 bridges along the Yarra River
  • There was a bridge built in 1888 (Princess Bridge)
  • There is a rock climbing area under a bridge along the Yarra (how cool!)
  • Shane Warne went to Melbourne High School
  • Eureka is the tallest tower in Melbourne
  • Matthew told us that most parts of the Yarra River is actually man made to solve the problem of Melbourne flooding
  • Hamilton Island is a man made island due to the Yarra being dug out

After the River Boat Cruise we had lunch in the Botanical Gardens. It was so relaxing because we had a chance to get back to nature. After lunch we went to the gobsmacking and hilarious performance El Kid at the Arts Center.

We were so impressed by the techniques used in the show and the actors were such amazing singers! We all left the art center feeling awed and had so many questions for the performers.

JOIN OUR ARMY OF ENVIRONMENTAL NINJAS!!!!!

Today we turned into Ninjas!

As part of our Inquiry lesson today, we had a Skype conversation with a friend of Miss Gamage's (Sara Rickards), who is an Environmental Engineer/ Ninja.

Sara spoke about the importance of sustainability and outlined ways which we can help the environment through our own actions.

Sara highlighted particular ways that we can make the world a better place e.g. using reusable coffee cups, picking up rubbish, eating organic foods, helping other people, planting trees and saving electricity.

After the talk, we were given the opportunity to brainstorm specific ways that we can become Environmental Ninjas ourselves. As a result, we have chosen secret environmental missions to do over the course of the term.

Here is a Ted talk which Sara gave on sustainability  which you might like to watch and discuss;

Funny Limericks

Today in 3/4 we learnt how to write limericks.

A limerick is a silly poem with five lines.  They are often funny or nonsensical.  Limericks were made famous by Edward Lear, a famous author who wrote the "Book of Nonsense" in the 1800's.  This was an entire book of silly limericks.

Here are a few of the students from this morning:

Monkey Man
There was a cheeky monkey man,
He hit a zookeeper with a pan,
And climbed up a tree,
And did a great wee,
And escaped into a fast van.

Family Eating
I ate my mum, I ate my dad,
And my brother is really mad,
So I ate him as well,
I was really on a heavy pad.

Smelly Belly
There once was a smelly belly,
Which smelt like rotten jelly,
She very very fat,
I'm sure about that,
So that was our smelly belly.

Gigantic Poo
There once was a gigantic poo,
It loved being in the loo,
He thought it was fun,
So he pushed his mum,
In the gigantic toilet too.
